Join us on Tuesday, April 6th, at 7pm ET for a live Zoom tour of Community Boat Building
"Founded in 2007, Community Boat Building’s (CBB) mission is to bring real world experience and academic skills together to stimulate excitement for learning among low-income students in Boston Public Schools through boat building and coastal experiences."
The tour will be led by Dave Pippin of CBB and hosted by Erik Lindahl of Savin Hill Yacht Club.
Dave Pippin:
Prior to taking the job with CBB at the Young Achievers Science and Math Pilot School, Dave lived on an island in the Salish Sea. His love of boatbuilding grew as a volunteer at the Center for Wooden Boats in Seattle and in the schools where he previously taught students to learn the craft. After reading a WoodenBoat article about what was then called Boston Family Boatbuilding (WB #206, Jan/Feb 2009), Dave contacted our founder, John Rowse, about sharing ideas. John sent Dave a plan of the Periwinkle, and Dave built it with his middle school students. Eventually the two boatbuilding teachers met, and Dave volunteered for a day in the old shop at the Charlestown Navy Yard. Now Dave builds about a dozen boats a year with 5th graders at Young Achievers. Dave@communityboatbuilding.org

A museum professional, visual artist, and avid sailor, Erik has been working on a series of documentary films about sailing in Boston Harbor. His documentary about the Thunderbird will premiere this June and he is currently planning films about the Hustler and 210.
