Sailing during the COVID-19 global pandemic presents new challenges to event organizers and competitors alike. The OA, including host clubs, intend to follow all applicable governmental requirements, but it is also up to each individual skipper, crew and guest to act responsibly and within their own comfort range when choosing whether and how to participate in this event. Similar to offshore safety equipment, the OA strongly recommends all appropriate health precautions, but makes no assessment or warranty of each team’s preparedness or safety. EACH COMPETITOR PARTICIPATES IN THIS EVENT AT THEIR OWN RISK. |

Update
Hello Competitors!
COVID-19
There has been a flare-up of COVID on the Miss. Gulf Coast and, in particular, in the sailing community. As of Friday, June 19, 2020, Gulfport Yacht Club has instituted a members-only, no guests, "lockdown" policy. This means that the fleet will have NO ACCESS to any amenities at GYC. Specifically, there will be no mooring at the visitors dock, use of the boat hoist, nor use of the restroom facilities.
We have contacted the Gulfport Municipal Marina and were told there are plenty of available slips of all sizes. The marina does not accept reservations, but we were assured that they can accommodate everyone. You may contact them via VHF upon arrival, 24-hours a day.
The public boat launch is available for ramp-launching or retrieval of trailerable boats.
Concerning the other end of the Race, things are better. However, there are limitations in place. Here is a message from Tom Pace, Vice Commodore of PYC:
Hi Everyone - I am Tom Pace, current VC at Pensacola. While we are happy to receive those doing the race from Gulfport, it is critical that all clearly understand that this is decidedly not a normal situation due to Covid-19.
PYC will accommodate best as possible, and that means with reasonable cooperation from all visitors to respect the very basic elements of prudent distancing.
Specifically, for the first time in this event’s history, no one is allowed to sleep, crash, or spread out anywhere inside the main clubhouse. The Watson SailingCenter at the Marina and the pool will be your main areas of access, with full bar at the Tiki in the pool area. Drinks may also be ordered at the bar inside the main clubhouse, though large or group gathering inside is not allowed. As previously noted, food is available as usual, but we are not at full capacity due to restrictions and guidelines of the State of Florida and the CDC. Reservations and patience will go along way to make this work well.
We are all making a strong effort to be able to enjoy Pensacola Yacht Club while practicing courtesy for others while on the grounds of PYC.
I cordially ask all to respect that the health and safety of our members and you - our guests - is not negotiable. Further, as we all have seen, situations surrounding Covid-19 can change daily, and flexibility in handling any changes is appreciated.
Have a great race, and we’ll see you at PYC.
For any questions or further concerns, contact me at any time.
