Phase 3 Step 1 Guidelines in Effect
So the good news is that racing is allowed so long we comply with the safety standards for both recreational boating and youth and adult sports. The not so hot news is that the sports standards strictly limit crew size, regardless of the size of the boat. The rules say that for a sailing race such as Beringer, the maximum number of people on each boat competing is 3. So for most boats that's either doing it double-handed or a modified version of short-handed. As a destination distance race, the Beringer lends itself well to being done short-handed, but if you're not comfortable with this wrinkle imposed by the Phase 3 guidelines, let us know and we'll refund your fee if you wish to withdraw. Updated amendments will be posted shortly, once the ground settles, but wanted to let you know the gist of things as soon as possible.

Changes to Shore Side Activities
Due to concerns about Covid-19, and the logistics involved since we're still unsure when Phase 3 will begin and whether it will allow racing, we've decided to postpone the Beringer Bowl Awards Party, which would have been at the Crown & Anchor on Saturday, July 18. Instead, provided that racing is in fact allowed by 7/17, competitors will have the option of doing the turn and burn, or stay and play on your own. Or stay for a nap and leave Saturday, whatever you feel comfortable with or want to do. The Provincetown Marina is open and taking reservations, 48 hour cancellation policy for moorings, 14 days for slips, but they will let you reschedule with 24-48 hours notice for another time this season without the $60 fee should you decide not to go. We're cautiously optimistic racing will be allowed in Phase 3 in time for Beringer, just not sure about the restrictions for gatherings, or sailors' comfort levels. Should racing not be permitted, still could be fun to take your time on your way to a weekend in PTown, it's up to you. The race documents will be amended accordingly, just wanted to get the word out ASAP. Hope everybody is healthy and practicing safe sailing!
Bottom line, race is still on, provided it's permitted, party is off, so feel free to stay in PTown on your own or turn and burn. We'll do awards at a later time, we promise!
